When Dionysus noticed the light on in the kitchen, he hadn’t expected to find Loki in there, eating a cake directly with a fork.

As he stepped into the room, Loki looked up, pulling the fork out of his mouth. “Oh, hey. Want some?”

Dionysus leaned against the counter, peering down at the cake next to Loki. A lone candle that looked like it was about to fall over had started to drip down onto the frosting in the centre. “Sure.”

 

Loki moved his legs out of the way so Dionysus could get a fork out of the drawer. A moment later, Dionysus hopped up on top of the counter on the other side of the cake. “Did we miss your birthday? I thought it was in a few weeks.”

“Technically every day’s my birthday.”

Dionysus picked up a forkful of cake. Underneath the chocolate frosting was a light sponge full of colourful little spots. “How did you come to that conclusion?”

“October 24th’s just a date Balder, Thor and I picked. I don’t actually know when my real birthday is, so since any day could be my actual birthday, I can eat birthday cake anytime I want.”

Dionysus smiled. “I won’t argue with logic that gets me more cake.”
